Me mātua aroha ki te tangata, hei manaaki tika i a rātou.

To care for older people, you have to care about them.

Overview

We want to fund innovative products and services that significantly improve outcomes for an older population.   We will do this by supporting existing businesses or organisations with a track record of success and a vision for scale.

We have identified two broad funding categories:

  • ‘Feasibility’ projects – $50,000 grants, 3 grants available in this round
    Funding to an entity that has existing technology, a product or a service that could be expanded or adapted to meet the needs of vulnerable seniors and support ‘respectful ageing’, however, needs a feasibility study before it can proceed. This could include conducting trials or pilots.
  • ‘Boost’ projects – total pool of $400,000 available, targeting 4 – 5 initiatives.
    Funding to support an existing entity that is ready to expand the reach and/or impact of their existing product or service.  This could include making it available to older people; or more older people; or increasing the geographical reach.

Definition of innovation

Through the Selwyn Innovation Challenge we are looking to foster new or improved solutions to the challenging and complex problems facing seniors. This may include, but is not limited to, innovations relating to:

  • Technology (e.g. AI/virtual, electronic, mechanical, medical, industrial & manufacturing, and/or other technological tools, products, processes and/or systems);
  • Products (e.g. accessibility/mobility, health care, clothing, food); and/or
  • Services (e.g. social supports, enhancements to the experiences of older people).
